In Class 7, the difficulty level increases a little bit, where maths becomes more logical, and you have to learn new concepts that require step-by-step problem-solving. And for science subjects, it becomes more detailed, and schools start focusing more on practical work, project work, and class activities.
In Class 8: Many topics introduced in this class continue. Subjects become more detailed, especially Mathematics and Science. Students start learning algebra, practical geometry, linear equations, force, pressure, metals, chemical changes, and biological systems in a more advanced manner. Geography map work and History chapters also become more descriptive. During this stage, you are encouraged to understand concepts deeply because the learning pattern becomes more analytical compared to lower classes.
When students reach Class 9, preparation for board exams slowly begins. Many students have noticed a big change in their syllabus; they have noticed that their syllabus has become more detailed and lengthier than before. They have to attend extra classes for subjects like physics, chemistry and biology, even more maths, because these subjects are important for the students and the board too.
Class 9 is also important because internal assessments, practical files, and projects start carrying more importance. Students cannot completely depend on final exams. Schools often include marks from assignments, practical work, activities, and subject projects in the final result. This system helps students stay involved in studies throughout the year instead of studying only during exam time.
Class 10 is the final ICSE board year and is considered one of the most important academic stages for students. During this year, students prepare for board examinations while also managing school projects, practical files, and internal assessments. Subjects like English, Mathematics, Science, Geography, and History require consistent revision and answer-writing practice. Many students feel stressed because the syllabus looks large, but regular study and proper planning can make preparation much smoother.
The “ICSE 2026 Grading System” is designed in a balanced way so that students are tested through both theory exams and practical understanding. Most subjects are divided into written exams and internal assessments. The grading system is designed uniquely, as your 80 per cent marks totally depend on your theoretical subjects and knowledge; from this, they will check your problem-solving skills and analytical thinking. But 20 per cent of your marks depend on your internal assessment, like your monthly test participation, classroom activities and your behaviour.
One important thing students should always understand is that internal assessment marks can make a big difference in overall percentages. Many students ignore projects and practical files, thinking only board exams matter. However, scoring well in internal assessments can improve final results significantly. Completing assignments on time, maintaining neat project files, and participating in practical work can help students gain extra marks easily.
ICSE 2026 is not only about scoring marks but also about developing understanding, discipline, communication skills, and confidence. The syllabus may look detailed in the beginning, but when students study chapter by chapter and revise regularly, it becomes much more manageable.
