The 2026-27 batch of CBSE Class 9 is the first batch of students under the Secondary Stage according to NEP 2020/NCF-SE 2023, which involves the most massive curriculum reform in Indian schools after more than two decades. According to NEP 2020/NCF-SE 2023, NCERT has introduced entirely new textbooks for all core subjects, having fresh titles, redesigned chapters, and new approaches altogether.
The incoming 2026-27 batch of students will be the first one to undergo Secondary Stage education. In other words, the traditional textbooks such as Beehive, Moments, the previous textbook on integrated science, and history, geography, civics, and economics textbooks are no longer valid for the ongoing session. In addition, all subjects have acquired new names, chapters, and new approaches.
The major differences in the syllabus for CBSE class 9th in 2026-27 will be as follows: The chapters in mathematics have increased from 12 to more, and mathematics is now being taught using a new book called Ganita Manjari. Science subjects are all in one book titled Exploration, which includes topics such as physics, chemistry, biology, and earth sciences.
Social science subjects, including history, geography, political science, and economics, have been brought together and divided into two parts in a new book called the Integrated Textbook of Social Science, consisting of 16 thematic chapters. English is no longer Beehive and Moments but Kaveri. Sanskrit is no longer Shemushi but Sharda.

Here are some practical, expert-recommended study strategies for CBSE Class 9 students in 2026-27:
This is by far the most important tip for students studying under CBSE Class 9 for 2026-27. The previous edition textbooks: Beehive, Moments, Shemushi, Democratic Politics-I, and Contemporary India-I, are no longer relevant to the current syllabus. Students following the previous syllabus will soon realise that their chapters do not align with the questions in the exam.
For Ganita Manjari Part 1, there is an expectation for something else from the students – think before computing, know how to prove and look at things from different perspectives. Memorisation of formulas from this book is unlikely to help you succeed in the subject. Spend about 30 to 45 minutes every day on CBSE Class 9 Maths, and go through NCERT questions systematically.
The purpose of exploration is to help students think. Before beginning each chapter, you must study the Probe and Ponder questions because these will give an idea about the things you should be able to grasp after reading the chapter. Attempt all the exercises after studying each chapter without referring to the answers beforehand.
Kaveri is definitely one of those books that require regular practice through reading and writing. One should go through all the lessons very carefully and attentively, not only to understand the subject matter but also the language used in the book. When it comes to writing, one should practice letter writing, article writing, and note-taking at least twice a week.
The new Social Science course has been designed specifically to make students refrain from stuffing themselves with facts. The best way to prepare for the new Understanding Society book is to comprehend the main concept in each chapter, apply it to everyday life, relate it to happenings around us, and draw a map whenever necessary.
The NCF-SE 2023 course syllabus is based on the concept of spaced learning. A student who reviews his earlier chapters weekly for the entire year will have an easier time preparing for exams compared to one who tries to study everything at the last minute.
It is very important to have a thorough knowledge of all the topics covered in CBSE Class 9 because these will have to be learned more deeply in CBSE Class 10. This implies that mastering the basics, selecting the right books, making notes, etc., is a key to success in exams.
The new CBSE Class 9 Maths book based on the NCERT Textbook Ganita Manjari Part 1 was launched in April 2026. CBSE Class 9th Science for the academic year 2026-27 will be based on a new NCERT textbook titled Exploration, released in April 2026.
