While Class 8 is not a board examination year under the CBSE framework, students currently in Class 8 in 2026-27 will appear for the CBSE Class 10 Board Exam in 2028-29. All important subjects of the CBSE board examinations, which include Algebra, Geometry, Mensuration, Forces, Light, Matter, Reproduction, Governance, etc., are introduced in Class 8. If students have good conceptual understanding in Class 8, Classes 9 and 10 become much easier for them.

CBSE Class 8 Maths Ganita Prakash 2026-27

The CBSE Class 8 Maths will be taught using the new NCERT textbook called "Ganita Prakash". It comprises two parts. The Ganita Prakash textbook is an entirely new book for Class 8 maths. This is one of the major changes in the Class 8 Mathematics syllabus in recent years. "Ganita Prakash" means light of mathematics in Sanskrit. It aims to teach mathematics by discovering the beauty of math through storytelling, puzzles, and problem-solving.

The new mathematics syllabus comprises 14 chapters. Volume I includes topics like squares and cubes, powers, number systems, quadrilaterals, ratios, proportions, and algebra. Volume II comprises advanced concepts such as the Pythagoras Theorem, surface area, advanced algebra, and data handling. Both volumes are designed to help students master Class 9 mathematics easily.

CBSE Class 8 Science: Curiosity (New Textbook 2026-27)

CBSE Class 8 Science now uses the revised NCERT Curiosity textbook under the NEP 2020 curriculum. Curiosity adopts a method based on inquiry where each chapter begins with an observation, probing, pondering questions, and practicals. There is a conscious effort to move away from the previous definition-first method to the thinking-first method. The new book has 13 chapters in total, which cover Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Earth Science.

Note: Chapter 1 needs to be revised regularly since it is always included in the examination paper of CBSE Class 8 Science Term 1 and must be revised first. Make sure you practise drawing and labelling diagrams related to Chapter 10 (Light) and Chapter 4 (Electricity).

CBSE Class 8 English — Poorvi

Class 8 English in the CBSE curriculum uses the new NCERT textbook called “Poorvi”, which has been launched in the new NEP curriculum of 2020. “Poorvi” is an alternative to the previously used texts “Honeydew” and “An Alien Hand,” with a blend of prose, poetry, and supplementary reading arranged on themes.

CBSE Class 8 Social Science — Exploring Society: India and Beyond

Social Science for CBSE Class 8 adopts the holistic NCERT textbook "Exploring Society: India and Beyond," which includes History, Geography, Civics, and Economics in one book. The updated syllabus helps students draw parallels between history and contemporary society, comprehend geographical phenomena, and reflect upon governance and economics.

CBSE Class 8 Social Science Part 1 Chapters

CBSE Class 8 Hindi — Malhar

This is based on the NCERT book named Malhar that has been implemented by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in Class 8 Hindi under the new National Education Policy 2020. Malhar includes elements of prose, poetry, grammar, and composition in a single integrated course. This subject enhances reading skills, writing skills, and literary appreciation of the Hindi language. The grammar lessons in the subject include Sangya, Sarvanaam, Kriya, Visheshan, Sandhi, Samas, and Vyakaran composition.

CBSE Class 8 Sanskrit — Deepakam

CBSE Class 8 Sanskrit is based on the newly introduced NCERT book titled Deepakam. The book Deepakam concentrates mainly on Vyakaran, reading comprehension, translation, and vocabulary development. Those students who keep themselves engaged in learning Sanskrit will have an advantage when it comes to understanding patterns in the languages of Hindi and English, and even other competitive exams.
