The CBSE Class 8 course is considered one of the most crucial phases in a student’s academic career. Being the final phase of middle school and the start of high school education, it is the last chance to develop strong conceptual fundamentals before progressing to Classes 9 and 10, which are very crucial. Students who have thoroughly covered the CBSE Class 8 course content will be much better equipped to deal with board examinations, competitive tests, and advanced science and mathematics.

The CBSE Class 8 internal assessments take place during two different periods within the academic year, which are Term 1 (Mid-Session) and Term 2 (Annual Exam). The chapter distribution between the two terms varies from school to school, but the general NCERT course content does not change from one CBSE school to another. The CBSE Class 8 Term 1 examination usually involves studying the first-half chapters from the NCERT course book; that is, Chapter 1 to Chapter 7 for Math and Chapter 1 to Chapter 6 or 7 for Science.
To study effectively for the CBSE Class 8 assessments, students should follow the tips below: finish reading the entire chapter in the NCERT textbook before attempting any practice exercises, review the CBSE Class 8 notes immediately before each test session, solve all NCERT exercise problems and verify the solutions from the CBSE Class 8 solutions guide, and solve previous year papers and sample question papers at least two weeks prior to each test period.

While Class 8 is not a board examination year under the CBSE framework, students currently in Class 8 in 2026-27 will appear for the CBSE Class 10 Board Exam in 2028-29. All important subjects of the CBSE board examinations, which include Algebra, Geometry, Mensuration, Forces, Light, Matter, Reproduction, Governance, etc., are introduced in Class 8. If students have good conceptual understanding in Class 8, Classes 9 and 10 become much easier for them.
If students want to be prepared adequately for the CBSE board examination, Class 8 is the time when they should develop a proper study routine, grasp all the concepts of NCERT, and practice competency and application-based questions asked by CBSE during board examinations.
Expert study strategies for CBSE Class 8 students, recommended by subject teachers and aligned with the updated NEP 2020 curriculum.
The biggest problem faced by CBSE Class 8 students in 2026-27 is that they tend to refer to outdated editions or photocopies of the NCERT books. The new books, namely Ganita Prakash, Curiosity, Poorvi, and Malhar, have completely changed the chapters, topics, and even the exercises. All questions in the examination will be based on the new editions.
Some of the conceptually strong topics covered in CBSE Class 8 Mathematics (Ganit Prakash) include squares & cubes, proportion, algebraic identities, Pythagoras theorem, etc. Practice is essential for mastering each one of these concepts. Attempt a minimum of 5-8 problems from the NCERT every day in various topics. Special attention should be paid to the topics covered in part 2 of your syllabus.
Class 8 Science (Curiosity) by CBSE includes basic topics that will be directly covered in Class 9 and Class 10 and ultimately in JEE & NEET preparation. The topics include force, electricity, matter, light, and microorganisms. These topics are first covered in Class 8 and then again explained in more detail in higher classes. Getting a good grip on the topics at this level is very beneficial for years to come. Pay special attention to chapters 1 to 6.
Allocate one day out of seven for revision using chapter-wise CBSE Class 8 revision notes. Instead of revising the complete chapter, make sure that you remember all the definitions, formulae, process steps, and labelling of diagrams through these notes. Revision on a weekly basis during the academic year will prove to be very beneficial.
Solve all the questions from the NCERT exercises after finishing each chapter and match them with the CBSE solutions for class 8. Understand the reason behind a wrong solution rather than just the right answer, because that will provide you with the conceptual clarity required to solve CBSE questions.
Class 8 consists of six subjects at once. Make a weekly timetable for yourself to provide a certain amount of time to each subject. Mathematics and Science need the most time to solve problems. English, Hindi, and Social Science need practice in reading and writing, not in problem-solving.
All the CBSE Class 8 schools are compelled to use these books from NCERT. The students who make sure that they go through each and every chapter with full concentration, prepare themselves with the help of CBSE Class 8 notes, and solve all the NCERT solutions will surely get excellent grades.
