CBSE Class 7 Syllabus Overview

The CBSE Class 7 Syllabus 2026-27 demonstrates a significant shift in the educational process in middle schools. Through the inclusion of Ganita Prakash in the CBSE Class 7 Math syllabus, Curiosity in the CBSE Class 7 Science syllabus, and Exploring Society for Social Science, the new textbooks are designed to be more interactive, concept-based, and practical.

Whether you are downloading the Class 7 Syllabus NCERT PDF or preparing for Term 1 examinations, beginning with the correct books and having a good idea about the revised Class 7 CBSE Syllabus will be the best thing you can do.

CBSE Class 7 Syllabus Maths 2026-27 (Ganita Prakash)

In accordance with the newly issued NCERT textbook titled ‘Ganita Prakash’ in two parts, the CBSE Class 7 Math syllabus is based on this new edition. The main objective of this textbook is to promote mathematical reasoning by solving situational problems and riddles in the context of mathematics.

Ganita Prakash Part 1 Chapter List

Chapter 1: Large Numbers Around Us

Reading, writing, and comparing large numbers using the Indian & International number systems. Place value, estimation, and real-life contexts such as population & distances.

Chapter 2: Arithmetic Expressions

Understanding the order of operations (BODMAS), using brackets, and simplifying arithmetic expressions step by step.

Chapter 3: A Peek Beyond the Point

Introduction to decimal numbers: tenths, hundredths, and beyond. Converting fractions to decimals and vice versa, and using decimals in measurement & money.

Chapter 4: Expressions Using Letter-Numbers

First steps into algebra: introducing variables (letter-numbers), forming algebraic expressions, and understanding how algebra generalises arithmetic patterns.

Chapter 5: Parallel and Intersecting Lines

Properties of parallel & intersecting lines, angles formed by transversals, paperfolding activities, and building geometric reasoning through observation.

Chapter 6: Number Play

Computational thinking through number puzzles, parity (odd & even), patterns, the Virahāṅka Fibonacci sequence, and cryptarithms.

Chapter 7: A Tale of Three Intersecting Lines

Exploring what happens when three lines intersect. Angle relationships, Triangle formation, and Properties of Triangles, including the Angle sum Property.

Chapter 8: Working with Fractions

Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions. Word problems, equivalent fractions, and connecting fractions to real-life sharing and measurement contexts.

Ganita Prakash Part 2 Chapter List

Chapter 1: Geometric Twins

Introduction to congruence: what makes two figures identical in shape & size. Criteria for congruence of triangles (SSS, SAS, ASA). Properties of isosceles & equilateral triangles.

Chapter 2: Operations with Integers

Multiplication & division of integers, using the number line to visualise operations, properties of integers, and avoiding common errors.

Chapter 3: Finding Common Ground

Factors, multiples, HCF, and LCM. Prime factorisation methods and their application in solving real-life problems.

Chapter 4: Another Peek Beyond the Point

Deeper exploration of decimals: multiplication & division of decimal numbers, standard form, and connecting decimals to fractions & percentages.

Chapter 5: Connecting the Dots

Data handling and introduction to probability, collecting data, constructing bar graphs, and understanding the likelihood of events through simple experiments.

Chapter 6: Constructions and Tilings

Practical geometry using compass & ruler, constructing geometric figures, exploring tessellations and tiling patterns.

Chapter 7: Finding the Unknown

Solving linear equations in one variable, framing equations from real-life situations and finding their solutions through systematic methods.

Study Tip: Chapters 4 & Chapter 7 of Ganita Prakash (Algebraic Expressions using Letters, Numbers, and Determining the Unknown) build the base of algebra in Classes 8, 9, and 10. Pay special attention to them right from the beginning.

CBSE Class 7 Syllabus Science 2026-27 (Curiosity)

CBSE Class 7 Syllabus (Science) includes the latest NCERT textbook called Curiosity, which includes 12 chapters for the upcoming session of 2026-27. This textbook teaches science in terms of an ongoing journey of learning as opposed to being static knowledge, thus making students curious about things around them.

Chapter 1: The Ever-Evolving World of Science

What is science? How does scientific knowledge grow through observation, hypothesis, experimentation, and discovery: Introduction to the scientific method.

Chapter 2: Exploring Substances: Acidic, Basic and Neutral

Acids, bases, and neutral substances. Using indicators (litmus, turmeric) to identify them. Neutralisation reactions and everyday applications.

Chapter 3: Electricity: Circuits and Their Components

Electric circuits, circuit diagrams, symbols, conductors, insulators, battery connections, LED components, and safety with electricity.

Chapter 4: The World of Metals & Nonmetals

Properties of metals & nonmetals: lustre, conductivity, malleability, ductility. Real-life uses and differences between the two groups.

Chapter 5: Changes Around Us: Physical and Chemical

Physical changes (reversible) vs. chemical changes (irreversible). Characteristics of chemical changes, rusting, burning, and crystallisation.

Chapter 6: Adolescence: A Stage of Growth and Change

Physical, emotional, and social changes during adolescence. Puberty, reproductive health, nutrition during adolescence, and personal hygiene.

Chapter 7: Heat Transfer in Nature

Learn about conduction, convection, and radiation. How heat moves through solids, liquids, and gases. Land breeze, sea breeze, and cooking applications.

Chapter 8: Measurement of Time and Motion

Units of time, types of motion (uniform, nonuniform, periodic), speed, and distance–time graphs with simple calculations.

Chapter 9: Life Processes in Animals

Nutrition in animals, digestion in humans and amoeba. Respiration: aerobic and anaerobic. Circulatory system and excretion in animals.

Chapter 10: Life Processes in Plants

Photosynthesis: conditions, process, and equation. Nutrition in plants, including saprophytic and parasitic plants. Respiration and transportation in plants (xylem and phloem). Role of stomata.

Chapter 11: Light: Shadows and Reflections

Behaviour of light: how it travels, reflection from plane and curved mirrors. Real and virtual images. Shadows, pinhole camera, and luminous vs non-luminous objects.

Chapter 12: Forests: Earth, Moon, and the Sun

Introduction to the Earth, Moon, Sun, and the Universe

Important Note: The new "Curiosity" book consists of 12 chapters, which is less than the previous book (13 Chapters). Our Lifeline and Wastewater Story was removed from the book, and a new chapter (Earth, Moon, and the Sun) was added. All other chapters that were taught in the old book have been revised as per the NEP framework.

CBSE Class 7 Syllabus English 2026-27
